Abstract

Entering the job market as a newly graduated nurse can be daunting. Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, has developed a unique approach to supplement the relationship between service and education. The education of nursing students regarding available benefits and pay practices in hospitals has been reported by nursing students to be very valuable. The relationships forged during these interactive sessions with a human resources recruiter and a Nurse Executive have been key in increasing the ability of the hospital to recruit new graduates, which resulted in a 1.7% vacancy rate for nursing positions in 2006.
